Green Beauty Fix at The Detox Market in King West

fullsizeoutput_1c1fAs the season changes, so does the weather, our diet and probably our mood, too. Something else changes with the season, especially in the cold and windy Toronto winters – our skin. I admit that as I get older, more and more I’m starting to realize the importance of proper skincare and diet and how they both affect my well-being as well as self confidence.

fullsizeoutput_1c1eIf you’re searching for that glow (you know the one) and maybe you’re bored of the usual drugstore or big chain brands, there are many skincare retailers in Toronto that offer some options to the same-old, especially if your skin craves fragrance-fee, all-natural and eco-friendly formulations. I recently visited The Detox Market, an eco-friendly boutique located at 420 King Street West, offering luxury organic and natural products including skincare, makeup and lifestyle items.

fullsizeoutput_1c18The Detox Market was founded by Romain Gaillard and Valerie Grandury. In 2008, Gaillard and Grandury launched Odacité, a successful freshly-made organic skincare line and in 2010, they founded The Detox Market – A curated selection of carefully screened green brands in beauty, fashion and food. With locations in San Francisco and Los Angeles, The Detox Market Toronto location opened in 2012 with the encouragement of Naturopathic Doctor, Bita Doagoo who struggled with skin issues and was determined to find natural products that wouldn’t irritate her skin. These days, while juggling her naturopathic practice, she oversees the Toronto outpost of The Detox Market and dedicates her time to help others improve their personal health.

fullsizeoutput_1c1dThe shop stocks the best-of-the-best in each line to take out the guesswork for its clientele, this includes amazing lines like Odacité, Rahua, RMS, Tata Harper and the list of fabulous product lines goes on. I think a common complaint with natural or organic brands is that they sometimes don’t deliver results. With products found at The Detox Market, the products don’t just look pretty, they actually work without compromising your health. Here you’ll not only find skincare and make-up, but also many other clean-living products like supplements, teas, aromatherapy and many others.

p6081123_1-1While I was there, I picked up this Antioxidant Inner Beauty Boost by The Beauty Chef to add to my daily morning smoothies. This organic, bio-fermented, enzyme-packed probiotic concentrate was designed to give a daily shot of nutritional support that helps to protect the skin and body from free-radical damage and cellular aging. Yes! It’s formulated to repair and rejuvenate the skin, contains organic papaya leaf, fruit and seed and pomegranate, green tea and vitamin E to provide a perfectly balanced dose of gut-boosting prebiotics and probiotics and nutrient-rich antioxidants. Not to mention, it tastes like berries!

fullsizeoutput_1c14Another product that peaked my interest is this Shampoo and Conditioner by Rahua. The brand is based on sustainable business in partnership with women from Amazonian nations such as Waorani, Achuar, Quichua and Shuar. Rahua is a highly potent, restorative oil found in the Amazon rainforest by the women from the Quechua-Shuar tribes and it’s believed to be the secret to their thick, flowing and lustrously shiny hair. I’ll take a case, please!

detox_market_toronto_3Not everything offered in The Detox Market is budget friendly, but there is a good balance between luxury and more affordable products. Also nice to note that there is a number of local products promoted. One of them is this line by Graydon Clinical Luxury. I picked up the All Over Face and Body Lotion as well as a sample of the All Over Elixir Oil. Unfortunately the oil has sold out (boo!!!) which is devastatingly disappointing because I love it. Nevertheless, great line – local and affordable!

fullsizeoutput_1c1cIf you’re environmentally conscious and like to indulge in all things Beauty, I highly recommend this special little offering in downtown Toronto. If you do visit, let me know what you thought of it!
