416 Weekend: Things to do in Toronto (Dec.20 – Dec.22)

Miracle 34thFor many of you out there this is the last day of work this year. Many will be off for the next week and a half for a Christmas break. I know it’s gross outside, and it’s about to get worse, but it is the first official winter weekend, after all. So whether you’re celebrating not having to go back to work next week or you finally finished your Christmas shopping and you’re looking to spend your weekend doing things for pure enjoyment, here comes my TOP5 things to do in Toronto this weekend. Enjoy, keep warm and be careful out there!

Holiday Classics at TIFF Bell Lightbox – What’s Christmas without a healthy dose of classic Christmas movies, and there’s no better place to watch them than at TIFF Bell Lightbox. This weekend celebrate the holiday season with four classic movies: White Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol and It’s A Wonderful Life. For tickets and schedule visit the website.

Dog and SantaPet Photos with Santa – Make your way to Pawsway on Queens Quay West and celebrate the season with your furry friend. This weekend from 11:00am to 6:00pm, at the annual holiday festival along the city’s waterfront, your pooch and kitty can take a snapshot with dear old Saint Nick. Some of the proceeds go to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.

Christmas Cookie BakingColborne Lodge is a historic 19th-century house-turned-museum in High Park. This weekend the Lodge is welcoming kids to enjoy learning to bake gingerbread cookies. After the baking and probably a bit of snacking on the creations, guests can tour the house and learn about Victorian Christmas traditions and tales.

Natrel Rink1LoveTO Skating Party – This 4th annual skating party goes down Saturday evening at Harbourfront’s Natrel Rink as hundreds are set to skate around to the tunes laid down by DJ DLux and DJ Lissa Monet. The duo will be spinning everything from hip-hop, r&b, soul and of course Christmas classics. Drinks, skating, dancing, and some hot chocolate? Sounds like a pretty fun way to celebrate the first day of winter. Skates rentals are available, but be sure to get there early.

Steam Whistle Farmer’s Market – Starting this weekend, every Sunday from December 22nd to February 23rd, 10:00am to 2:00pm, Steam Whistle will host a Winter Farmer’s Market offering local goods from organic meat and cheese, to fresh baked goods, and all the honey and maple products you can shake an empty pint glass at. A Farmer’s Market is no longer a summer thing, not when there’s delicious beer involved to keep you warm.
