It’s almost the weekend and they say there’s a snowstorm on the way, but let’s ignore the weather for the next few days and have a little fun! Here’s my TOP 5 for this weekend’s events and other interesting stuff to do around Toronto.
CIBC LunarFest – Harbourfront Centre is ringing in the Chinese Year of the Snake this weekend with this family-friendly festival. Expect a traditional lion dance, an interactive lantern maze, a musical performance by the genre smashing Chai Found Music Workshop and a tutored tasting of five different kinds of dumplings.
Toronto Sportsmen’s Show – this crowd pleaser has been moved to February this year and takes place at the Direct Energy Centre. The show will be featuring 500 exhibitors with newest selections in camping, fishing, boating, hunting and hiking gear, live demonstrations and animal exhibit, a Canadian Forces display and an outdoor adventure zone. There is no shortage of exciting things to do.
1st Annual Rhino Winter Beer Festival – Canadian Beer News presents this first, and what will hopefully be an annual event at Rhino Restaurant and Bar in Parkdale. Over 20 breweries are taking part in this celebration of Barley Wines, Imperial Stouts, Barrel-Aged Ales and other Winter Warmers from breweries including Amsterdam, Flying Monkeys, Grand River, Mill Street, Great Lakes and many more. There are three admission options with one including breakfast buffet (that’s right folks, they’re starting early). Check the website for details.
12th Annual Motionball Gala – This annual gala, presented by AIR MILES and taking place this Friday, February 8th, supports the Special Olympics Canada Foundation. Join 2,000 young professionals at Muzik Event Space which will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland with an “ice” rink dance floor, an indoor snow fall and icy treats with a goal of raising over $300,000 for the foundation. The evening will feature a VIP reception including gourmet buffet dinner, interactive food stations, complimentary bar, Weslodge Mixology Bar, 2 performances by the Toronto Concert Orchestra, performance by Crash Dex and live DJ’s.
Gabriello Pitman LIVE – This is not your ordinary magic show. This perplexing display of magic, suggestion and psychology taking place this Saturday at the Black Swan Tavern is performed by the charismatic Gabriello Pitman offering close-up magic, mentalism and hypnosis. Utilizing techniques of social psychology, suggestion and mis-dierction, you will witness what appears to be real mind-reading…and maybe even learn something yourself. Tickets are $15 and available at the door. For more information visit Gabriello’s website. Here’s a taste of what’s in store.
